The Bottom Line: We really don't think there's anything special about the Slap Chop. It's easier to clean and store a regular knife. Unless you're keen on making ice cream toppings every day of the week, with the effort involved in using the Slap Chop and the mixed results, we think you're better off with a different product.

What It Claims to Do: According to Vince, the Slap Chop is so easy to use and clean that its going to change the way you eat. Vince tells us (in his usual animated voice) that you're going to start chopping more vegetables, making yourself quick and easy breakfasts, and simplifying clean up. What We Found: Well, it does chop. The first chop requires quite a bit of force. It is not easy to make the first few chops. But after the bulk of the work is done, it gets easier. We liked it for chopping almonds and carrots. The tomato test was an utter failure - giving us a tomato mush that would only be good for sauces and stews. Umm... you don't need a slap chop for that one. Skin side up on the tomatoes worked slightly better, but it was quite messy. Potatoes chopped fairly well after a few tries. Of course, you have to cut the potato in half first to fit it in the device. The onion test worked a lot better than we expected. Vince was right - put half an onion skin-down in the chopper and viola! you can pull the skin out from beneath your newly chopped pieces. Of all the things we chopped, this was one of our favorites... but don't believe Vince when he says the Slap Chop will stop you from crying over chopped onions... our eyes were quite wet after a few chops. If you like Vince's idea of chopped egg for breakfast, go right ahead. This worked pretty well. It should make a nice egg salad.
