  • Pros:
  • Opens easily to clean
  • Great for ice cream toppings
  • Works well for certain foods
  • Cons:
  • Food gets stuck in the blades
  • Blade wears out rather quickly
  • Easy to open, not as easy to clean (sharp!)
  • Food often needs to be cut first
  • Similar products available in stores

The Bottom Line:
We really don't think there's anything special about the Slap Chop. It's easier to clean and store a regular knife. Unless you're keen on making ice cream toppings every day of the week, with the effort involved in using the Slap Chop and the mixed results, we think you're better off with a different product.

Pros: Easy to use and easy to clean
Doesn't turn you food items into cream sauce like electric choppers
Cheap. Buy it at Walgreens.

Cons: Doesn't chop items into consistent sizes.

Bottom Line: SLAP IT you idiot! It is called a SLAP CHOP and you are pushing on it like a little girl. This product ONLY works well if you slap it...and I mean SLAP! My wife and I Love it. Also, Food doesn't get caught in it as much if you SLAP it either.

Pros: None :(

Cons: Blades aren't sharp, everything gets stuck in the SlapChop, a pain to clean!! I'd rate this at -5 if I could!

Bottom Line: It's crap, I can't say it any other way! I couldn't get it to cut anything right through...including onions! Everything I tried (peppers, tomato, onion, garlic, etc.) all got stuck in the blades. Perhaps I got a dud or a returned item because the blades didn't even cut through peppers!!! And the Graty that came with it....100 times more work than ever using a traditional stand up cheese grater!!! I felt like I had carpel tunnel syndrome by the time I finished grating the cheese.

I'd like to return the product (oh yes they have a money back guarantee if you aren't satisfied!!!) but you have to pay the postage plus you lose the postage and handling that you paid the first time to get it! By the time I pay the extra postage to send it back, I'll still be out about $30 plus bucks!!

My first and LAST time EVER trying a product advertised on tv!! The CRAPCHOPPER!!!

not good but not all bad

Pros: good for small jobs

Cons: bad for everything else

The Bottom Line: its good for chopping nuts or onions but if you need to chop anythign else its easier to just use a knife. Its tough to chop with sometimes and it can get dull pretty fast. once that happens its useless.

Pros: The version on their commercial is constructed from carbon fibre alloys and painted to look contemporary. It also has a pneumatic system connected to an internal air compressor which helps fire the piston into the cylinder, crushing everything in its path without mercy.

Cons: The one you get is reportedly unlike the one in the commercial.

Bottom Line: I saw the commercial and wanted it.

I read these reviews and will stick to knives. They appear to be far less complicated and time-consuing.

Pros: NONE

Cons: Not faster.

Not convenient. Food gets stuck. Chopped food is not pretty.

Cannot be easily cleaned. (Would you get your hands or a cloth near those blades?)

Not better than a good knife.

Bottom Line: I can do everything shown in the infomercial faster and cleaner with a proper knife.

A chef would never use this. NEVER.

Bottom Line: Listen, I just had to throw away my slap chop. While I was chopping onions the plastic part that fits over the blades to keep the food compressed became misaligned . Parts of it chopped up with my onion and I didn't realize it until I mixed all of my food together on the stove. I managed to locate and remove a large piece of it but this could be very harmful. I threw the thing away!

Pros: Didnt see any

Cons: Basically the entire creation. When food gets stuck in the blades you have to try getting it out with your hands..razor sharp blades + bare skin = a bloody meal.

Bottom Line: I just bought this thing and I already hate it, tried cutting up onions, tomato and a little cilantro for a salsa and half the stuff got stuck in the blades. I will be returning this product asap and never ever buying another product that Vince endorses.

Pros: The premise of the product is good as long as it comes from a better source.

Cons: Slap chop looks much cheaper than the Pampered Chef version and seems to be more dangerous to clean.

Bottom Line: I own the Pampered Chef version of this product that has been on the market much longer.

I love the version that I own and the blades have not worn out in the 4+ years that I have owned it and used it.

Yes some items stick in the blades at first however I find that happens when using a knife sometimes as well so it is not a big deal to me.

I specifically bought this product due to cutting onions, I LOVE IT! Cuts back on the tears tremendously and is super easy to clean.

I love this product so much that I have even started taking it to work with me to help cut up foods that I am sampling as I hurt my wrist a year ago and this product has much less strain on my wrist to cut certain items.

I have never tried the Slap Chop however the Pampered Chef version I give two thumbs up!

Pros: It looks like it's useful.

Cons: Everything about it. The time you save on chopping food (when it works) is wasted on cleaning it.

Bottom Line: The Slap Chop is junk. You'll definitely want to slap it alright...but not for the reason it was intended for. It's extremely flimsy and very awkward to clean. It's a waste of time and money.

Pros: You get some frustration out by pounding on the top.

Cons: See my review.

Bottom Line: This thing is a not a good buy. James is bang on with his assessment. This is a Dollar store item, nothing more. Blades get dull really fast, and it's worthless without sharp blades. It becomes a Slap-Mash after a few times you use it. Food gets stuck in the blades all the time, even with that flimsy piece of protective plastic that is a pain to insert all the time. Can't cut tomatoes, and cutting area is so small, you have to cut the veggies with a knife for them to fit. So what's the point? Don't waste your money on this.

Pros: There were some pros until it became a high risk health hazard so NO - there are NO pros.

Cons: This is a DOLLAR STORE product!!!! Biggest piece of crap ever invented.

I give it MINUS 5 stars.

Bottom Line: This is the most dangerous product ever. It chops onions, nuts etc. quite well, but it is made from cheap flimsy plastic that falls apart. There is a thin piece of plastic around the blades. I chopped walnuts with it, which I put into a pasta dash. While eating the pasta dish I found a small piece of plastic. I then checked the Slap Chop and noticed that a while piece of the plastic from around the blades had broken off and was nowhere to be found.

This means that this thin cheap plastic was finely chopped into the food that 2 of us had just eaten. I called the company and they are only prepared to issue a refund if I ship the product back to them. The problem is, postage costs as much as the product and they refuse to pay for postage.

This is a high risk product and the company that sells it are the biggest liars who steal your money. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT - you have been warned. It should be recalled and removed from the market.

Wow that's scary! I will not buy a slap chop now - even if its cheap!

Also - I would never buy one of these products from the infomercial pitchmen themselves! They are notorious for that kind of stuff!

I would only buy from Costco or Amazon... where they actually have heard of customer service!

Pros: Great on hard nuts and other hard foods and cheeses. The clean up is easier than on the video..takes about 90 seconds or less.

Cons: soft food. I have used it for three months and have not noticed any degradation in performance though you do have to keep in eye on that plastic guide piece..I almost lost it once and without that piece the unit is useless.

Bottom Line: The thing about the slap chopper is that yes you will learn quickly what foods it works best with which are usually your harder fruits and veggies. For example , apples, pairs, pineapples, carrots, celery and broccoli all work very well. oranges, grapefruits, grapes, potatoes, and softer things get stuck like in the video.

One thing I love about it is that my nephew who NEVER eats any veggies loves using the slap chopper because he sees it as fun and together we make things that I swear he'd never eat if you served it to him. We chopped celery, broccoli, nuts, and even carrots and tuna and he ate them all because "he made it". This is 12 year old boy who's diet basically consists of chicken fingers , chocolate, and ketchup and french fries. To get this kid to eat veggies regularly is worth much more than the $15 I paid for this and his mother would whole heartedly agree.

While I totally respect the Jonas who did the video above--THE KEY to using this is that the first couple of chops must be a real SLAP!! meaning a quick and hard thrust that's easily achievable by most of us. Jonas seemed to "push" the first couple of time..its a slap chopper..not a push chopper...Remember those whack-a-mole games we used to play in the arcade as kids? it's basically the same theory and motion..a short quick whack/slap and you're good to go!

Pros: Takes the peel of onion and garlic. That's it.

Cons: Too small. Too hard to clean. And oh, yeah, it doesn't work.

Bottom Line: I can barely get the thing to rotate when I slap it. Cleaning it is a disaster, there's crevices between the sharp blades which are impossible to get at. And even what it can chop, after a while it can't chop anymore. The blade gets dull from slamming into nuts and the like very quickly. Such a waste of money.

What It Claims to Do: According to Vince, the Slap Chop is so easy to use and clean that its going to change the way you eat. Vince tells us (in his usual animated voice) that you're going to start chopping more vegetables, making yourself quick and easy breakfasts, and simplifying clean up.

What We Found: Well, it does chop. The first chop requires quite a bit of force. It is not easy to make the first few chops. But after the bulk of the work is done, it gets easier. We liked it for chopping almonds and carrots. The tomato test was an utter failure - giving us a tomato mush that would only be good for sauces and stews. Umm... you don't need a slap chop for that one. Skin side up on the tomatoes worked slightly better, but it was quite messy.

Potatoes chopped fairly well after a few tries. Of course, you have to cut the potato in half first to fit it in the device.

The onion test worked a lot better than we expected. Vince was right - put half an onion skin-down in the chopper and viola! you can pull the skin out from beneath your newly chopped pieces. Of all the things we chopped, this was one of our favorites... but don't believe Vince when he says the Slap Chop will stop you from crying over chopped onions... our eyes were quite wet after a few chops.

If you like Vince's idea of chopped egg for breakfast, go right ahead. This worked pretty well. It should make a nice egg salad.

The Slap Chop opens easily for cleaning... but make sure you're comfortable handling all those blades. This is not a device you want your children getting hold of. The multiple blades makes it a definite no-no to stick your fingers in there.

One other point to mention - the Slap Chop does not last well over time. We had to use two Slap Chops in the course of producing this video review, because blades started to wear out after a while. If you are only using it for moderate chopping you may have better luck, but most likely you will have to replace it after some time.

The blades rotate to give an even, finer chop. Thats how you get diced food and not sliced food. And the protective cap hides the blades and acts as a cup that you can chop directly into, if you'd like.

The Bottom Line: We don't think this is going to change your life or make America skinny again. If you need it for basics - chopping eggs for eggsalad, making ice cream toppings, or chopping small quantities of onions - go ahead. Most of the uses Vince tries to sell this for just aren't easier with the Slap Chop. And bear in mind that you will have sharp blades to clean and may have to replace it after some time.
