Slap Chop

Pros: Great on hard nuts and other hard foods and cheeses. The clean up is easier than on the video..takes about 90 seconds or less.

Cons: soft food. I have used it for three months and have not noticed any degradation in performance though you do have to keep in eye on that plastic guide piece..I almost lost it once and without that piece the unit is useless.

Bottom Line: The thing about the slap chopper is that yes you will learn quickly what foods it works best with which are usually your harder fruits and veggies. For example , apples, pairs, pineapples, carrots, celery and broccoli all work very well. oranges, grapefruits, grapes, potatoes, and softer things get stuck like in the video.

One thing I love about it is that my nephew who NEVER eats any veggies loves using the slap chopper because he sees it as fun and together we make things that I swear he'd never eat if you served it to him. We chopped celery, broccoli, nuts, and even carrots and tuna and he ate them all because "he made it". This is 12 year old boy who's diet basically consists of chicken fingers , chocolate, and ketchup and french fries. To get this kid to eat veggies regularly is worth much more than the $15 I paid for this and his mother would whole heartedly agree.

While I totally respect the Jonas who did the video above--THE KEY to using this is that the first couple of chops must be a real SLAP!! meaning a quick and hard thrust that's easily achievable by most of us. Jonas seemed to "push" the first couple of time..its a slap chopper..not a push chopper...Remember those whack-a-mole games we used to play in the arcade as kids? it's basically the same theory and motion..a short quick whack/slap and you're good to go!
