Hawaii Chair
I'll be honest, I think Andrew was a little harsh on this one. Maybe I can't get any work done at my desk, but I imagine its better to watch TV on this than sit on a couch!

There's something awfully fishy about this story. And isn't Gary Oak the name of the bad guy from Pokemon?? Interesting choice of pen names for a 54 and a half year old (and who at 54 counts halves?!)

"Who wants a product that does not work as advertised?"
But it does work as advertised. It advertises that if you have a computer with a broadband connection, you have a phone line.
If your husband was deployed overseas, I doubt he had a reliable broadband connection! In those situations, at best you get a latency riddled satellite link to the internet, which is not stable enough to carry the average VOIP stream, let alone Magic Jack. Did your husband try Skype or any other service? I'll bet NONE of them work "as advertised" in his situation!

Answer to:
It seems like this is a risky product- it works for some, not so much for others. What experiences have you had with it?
/Magic Jack
My experience has been great! I use it as my home landline, on a dedicated old laptop from a few years back (pentium III, 256mb ram). I will admit that on long phone calls, sometimes the quality will begin to degrade over time, but I think that is because I'm using it over a WiFi connection (which they say is a no no!). I'm sure with some QoS tweaking on my router, I can give this traffic priority and eliminate the problem, but it honestly doesn't bother me enough. If/when that happens, a quick redial alleviates the problem.

I personally liked seeing Olivia Munn on Attack of the Show try to sit on it as her mic was thrown off, clinging for dear life. To be fair, they put it on the highest setting for her to try. But on any setting, it doesn't look like anyone would ever be able to concentrate on anything while their chair is moving...
